Guidelines for a Web Store

Below are some of the tasks that will need special consideration during the design of your web site. Please make note of them, as they will need to be incorporated into your web storefront site. If you currently have policies and such in place, Z-WEB can review them for implementation into your web store (for a FEE). Please contact us for pricing.

FTC regulations are quite different for online stores than they are for physically located businesses where your customers just walk in and charge for items.  Most of these tasks listed below MUST be a part of your web site and your site MUST be on-line and visible to certificate issuing companies (such as: Thwarte or VeriSign) so they may review your storefront.

  • Privacy Statement: Provide a statement about your company policy for handling data collected over the Internet. (Feel free to copy our privacy policy and modify it to your needs)
  • Guarantees and Warranties: You will need a write-up stating your store policies for returning and guaranteeing products or services you sell.
  • Frequent Shopper Points: (if available) determine whether or not you want to award points to frequents shoppers, for future discounts, etc.
  • Determine Shipping Method- By Weight, By Volume, By Price or actual UPS  charges (you'll need to indicate a method).
  • Check Policy: Details your policy on accepting personal or company checks, clearing time, etc.
  • Return Policy: Details how will your company handle returns for accepting merchandise back (such as):
    • Conditions
    • Shipping prepaid
  • When repairs or replacements will be completed The following items usually need to be completed during the design process of your web store and may vary, depending upon what bank you choose to handle your MOTO merchant account. The bank you choose will provide all the required documents and related fees for such services.
    • Item 1 - Application Letter (provided to you by the processing company)
    • Item 2 - Authorization Letter (on company letterhead, signed by a company officer)
    • Item 4 - Bank Application (provided by the authorizing bank)
    • Item 5 - AMEX Application (ONLY if you apply)
    • Item 6 - Monthly Volume expected (in US$)
    • Item 7 - Average ticket item (in US$)
    • Item 8 - Federal ID number

Please also note that most processing companies and most banks may require that your business have been in operation at least two (2) years or longer.  NOTE: Other requirements may be necessary as determined by the processing company or banking institution at the time of application processing.
